If it ain't broke...

it don't live at our house.

We are currently without a water heater. Not a huge deal, really. Allen is making due with cold showers-luckily it's summer. The rest of us boiled water and bathed in two inches of tepid water last night. So I'm thinking how much water we would normally waste bathing. Anyway... back to the breaking.

Our garage door opener keeps breaking. Not a huge deal, unless you are late for something and have to crawl on top of the broken truck to pull the emergency cord to be able to close the door manually so you can leave the house. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Last week it was the upstairs air conditioner. It's just not easy to sleep when it's 84+ degrees in your house. Then I thought of the people who'd never had air conditioner. Or a ceiling fan. Or power. Or a bed to sleep in.

Last week Allen's truck broke too. He fixed it, luckily. His car door handle is also broken. You have to roll down the window and open it from the outside. It broke a couple of weeks ago on the way to pick up the van. The one that needed a new transmission.

Before that, it was the washing machine and the dryer. We'd been proactive and replaced all the kitchen appliances the year before, trying to avoid any disasters there.

We had termites too, so I guess you could say that our
house was technically broken. I'm still not completely sure they are gone, but Scarlett is not thinking of that today.

I know that our air conditioning units (2 of them) are old. That's the real wallet buster there. We need new floors and garage doors too. I'm beginning to feel like we live in a small money pit. Or at least a black hole that loves to suck our money and credit into it with merciless glee.

I love what my mom says. "It's a fallen world. Things break!" It's true. Remind me that in heaven, nothing breaks. Really. Nothing does. That's a really good reason to want to go there. Besides the whole meeting Jesus thing....

You need to visit www.americanhomesheild.com and look at their home warranties. They're for houses like ours that are old and starting to fall apart. It covers your A/C, heating, plumbing, garage door openers, refrigerators, washer, dryer, water heaters, etc. They won't cover what's currently broken in your house but anything future...It's $40 per month. It's worth every penny. It came with our house when we bought it and I didn't have a clue what it was. It's fixed my oven. Replaced my AC in the middle of the summer. Fixed 2 plumbing issues and given me a new hot water heater. All for a $50 service fee (on top of your monthly). AHS has been a life saver for our old house.

Huh. This wishing for heaven sounds familiar. :-)

The warranty sounds great, but there's not much left now, huh? I'm so sorry. It's been quite a bad run on home stuff. And, your house isn't even old!! It's "shIeld", btw.

so sorry you are dealing with all of that but i completely understand. as far as american home shield, i'm glad it has worked for you tanya but we are having to fight them on everything in our house. it came with our house but they don't want to cover our air conditioner... still working on that one :) praying for you.

Oh Amy! It just doesn't seem to end, does it? But that is the good thing to remember... one day it will end. Whew! So sorry you are dealing with all of this. I am still hoping to replace both of our garage door openers too. They haven't worked since the storm that hit 2 months ago and it is driving me crazy not to park inside. I am so spoiled! Hang in there!

I feel your pain! We had four service calls on our water heater in one month. Even had a broken garage door. Add to that some electrical problems, and I felt like there was an endless line of servicemen coming to our house. I agree that AHS warranty is great, but it still stinks while you are waiting for things to be fixed.

And that constant discovering of YET another thing breaking. Ugh! I hope the spell ends soon!

I had no idea! I am so sorry all this is going on at once. I would love to get Will to take a look at your garage door opener. he has become quiet a pro at them since Sadie has eaten our wires again and again. I can't believe how long you went without hot water. You are a true pioneer woman.
