Adjustments

I think we are finally starting to settle down. I spent all last week rushing around, trying to beat the imaginary clock. I couldn't get it to sink in that we didn't have to do school. We didn't have to rush. *sigh* I wasted a whole week of my vacation trying to unwind. I did get a dent in the house cleaning, though. That feels really, really good. Another week, and we should be good.

The kids are trying to adjust to no school too. There has been more fighting than I can remember in years of late. I don't know what's up with that. No schedule, I guess. Or maybe those 3 hours of school provided a much needed break for Laney and Jude from each other. It was better by the end of the week, but for a couple of days, I was ready to fire some people. Mainly myself.

I got tickled one day, because Laney and Jude sat at the table for a solid hour and "played" school. Laney was the teacher, of course, and Jude did pretty well. I guess she's missing it a little. Her new curriculum will be here by the end of the week, so we are ready for next year. I may pull that sucker out if people don't start acting nice! Actually I won't. My lofty goal, after my upcoming garage sale, is to paint the inside of my house. I have convinced myself that I can do it, so please don't tell me otherwise! :) Surely I can get it done in 2 months time. Heh.

Well. The kids have been watching a *tad* more television than usual, but actually not too much. Laney has a current obsession with The Incredibles. I didn't used to like that movie, but it's growing on me. We like it because, for one reason, they are like our family. A dad, a mom, an older girl, middle brother and a younger brother. Laney and Jude have been playing the movie around the house, and I was proud of Laney for her artisic efforts. You can't see her black tights, but they are there. She's Violet, of course.

This picture just makes me happy, because I love that my husband is a huge goofball. He keeps us laughing, and some days, that's all that keeps me sane! This piece is called "Ode to the love of coffee" in case you were wondering.

On to the sleep issued child. He's really doing better. I had the brilliant, I say BRILLIANT, idea of not letting him have a nap on Friday. He'd be super tired, easy to get down and sleep really well all night, right? *Ahem* I must have been on leave of my mind. None of my children have operated that way. What happens is that they are so tired, they can't sleep. So he woke, Friday night, at 11 and stayed up for HOURS. Luckily Allen had just gotten home from his gig, so he helped at long as he could before I sent him upstairs to rest. I did not rock though, and truth of the matter is that my giant rear end hasn't sat in that recliner since LAST Saturday night. I'm trying to get Allen to let me sale it in the garage sale, but that's another story.

Anyway, Zane finally conked out around 2, I think, and we were up bright and early Saturday morning. I found 3 amazing garage sales, though, so that helped me not focus on the sleep deprivation I've come to know and not love so well.

Aside from that goof up, though, Zane has done better. He's getting easier to get down, a little, and he does get into the bed and say, "night night" now. He doesn't mention the rocker anymore. He's really talking now, by the way. (Hello stream of conscienceness thinking). Today in the minivan, after arriving at Lloyd's to eat, he got out of his car seat, got his paci out off the floor and beat on the window at Allen, who was standing beside the van, saying "Da da. Ba ba. (his paci) GOT IT!!!" He'd been trying to get someone to hand it to him since we left church when he promptly threw it on the floor. That's his longest sentence so far.

Okay, I digressed. This is why I don't blog when I'm tired.

So every night, we lay in bed and Zane rolls around, plays, nurses, moves pillows, waves at Jude, who is on the futon in our room, and generally drives me crazy until he finally...... gets......still. Tonight we would NOT lay down. And he HAD to wear his hat. (Where do these children get their strong wills from??? Anyone know?? Anyone???) Finally he leaned on me. I tried to lean him back and he'd jerk back up.

So I put my hand gently on the back of his head and he slooooowly leaned his head in my hand. And fell asleep. But he won, because he DID NOT LAY DOWN. Or take his hat off.

But hey, he's sleeping better, so who am I to complain???

Oh, and ...

David Platt taught on parenting today, so if you feel like getting your spiritual butt kicked, or even of you don't, take a listen. Definitely worth your time. There's the link. I'm not going to explode my brains by trying to post the sermon here this time. The new sermon is usually posted by Monday sometime, so take a listen. I dare ya!
